Others see it as a means of survival. And there are those who recognize it as an extension of God’s purpose in their lives. Working with excellence, faith, and integrity is not just a professional goal: it is a reflection of the character of those who understand that everything they do can—and should—glorify God. In this article, we reflect on how it is possible to align faith and vocation in a practical, mature, and transformative way, including in professions such as translation, interpretation, and cultural mediation.

Work as a Mission

From the Book of Genesis onward, we see that work is part of human nature. Even before the Fall, God entrusted Adam with the responsibility of tending the garden. This shows that work is not a consequence of sin, but part of creation. The problem lies not in work itself, but in the way we carry it out.

When we realize that our work is a form of service, we begin to see our daily tasks in a new light. The time we devote to them, our attention to detail, and our patience with the processes—all of this becomes an expression of our faith.

Working with purpose means turning every interaction into a quiet ministry, and every delivery into an offering of excellence.

Excellence as a Hallmark of the Kingdom

The Bible shows us many examples of professionals who stood out for their excellence. Joseph, even as a slave, distinguished himself in Potiphar’s household and later in the Egyptian government. Daniel became an advisor to the Babylonian kings because of his wisdom and diligence. Nehemiah was the king’s cupbearer and the one who rebuilt the walls. They didn’t just have faith—they had excellence.

In today’s world, translating medical, legal, or educational documents with accuracy and integrity is also a way of serving others. It is through this service that lives are connected, processes are made possible, and families are reunited. That is why the pursuit of technical excellence is not vanity; it is obedience to a calling.

A vocation is not a profession; it is an identity

Many people confuse a vocation with a profession. But the word “vocation” comes from Latin vocare, which means “calling.” You may change careers over the course of your life, but your calling remains the same. And when your career is aligned with your calling, your work becomes easy, fruitful, and meaningful.

In the case of Jana Büchi, for example, translation is not just a craft. It is a tool to help people realize their dreams, cross borders, and find their way. Her calling is linked to reconciliation, clarity, and building bridges. Translation is the means through which she carries out this mission.

Faith Expressed Through Service

A Christian professional doesn’t need to preach in the workplace to express her faith. The way she listens, advises, responds, and solves problems is enough to make an impact. This applies to any field: healthcare, law, business, technology. And especially in fields that deal with sensitive data and important decisions, such as the translation of official documents.

Having faith doesn’t mean being fanatical; it means being consistent. It means keeping your word, meeting deadlines, delivering high-quality work, acknowledging mistakes, and learning from them. It means praying before responding to a difficult client. It’s interceding for someone who is about to leave for another country. It’s choosing not to lie, even if it costs you a contract.

Changing the world through your profession

Each of us has a sphere of influence. It could be a classroom, a consultation room, a computer screen, or a social media platform. And it is within that sphere that our faith should shine.

At JL Nissi, this is reflected in the way each service is handled: with honesty, empathy, and clarity. The team understands that every client has an emotional, spiritual, and practical context that must be respected. And that changes everything.

When we align our faith with our calling, we become instruments of transformation. And this does not depend on the role we play, but on the way we choose to fulfill it.

Discern, rest, and trust

Aligning faith and vocation also involves knowing how to discern the times. There are times to plant and times to harvest. Times to sow with tears and times to celebrate with joy. The secret lies in remaining faithful, even when the results are not immediate.

Many Christian professionals get frustrated because they don’t see quick results. But the harvest doesn’t depend on our anxiety. God honors perseverance, obedience, and integrity.

To rest is to trust that God is present even in the quiet moments—in the hours no one sees, in the texts revised in the early morning, in the budgets that seem small, in the decisions no one applauds.

Conclusion

To work with faith, excellence, and a sense of calling is to understand that every client is an opportunity to serve God. It is to view work as part of our mission. It is to live out the Gospel in a practical, quiet, and powerful way.

When you align your career with your calling, everything makes sense: the challenges, the lessons, the successes, and even the losses. And even when no one else recognizes it, you know you’re being faithful to the One who called you.

Stay strong. Keep serving. Because the world needs—now more than ever—professionals who convey the truth—through words, actions, and their very lives.

Há quem enxergue o trabalho como um fardo.
